In the summer of 2015, I managed to realize one of my dreams: that of visiting the Latin America continent, and specifically Peru, Argentina and Brazil. Each one of this trio of countries deserves to be treated separately, and they will be in due course. But in this particular post I want to focus on one special portion of the cross border journey which started in Lima Peru and ended in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, having traversed Argentina in between. This portion of the journey took place in the mythical Amazon - the world’s largest tropical rain forest - covering much of northwestern Brazil and extending into Colombia, Peru and other South American countries. Famed for its biodiversity, the Amazon has a magical ring to it - part scary, part alluring. What comes to mind are visions of leafy canopies inhabited by howling monkeys, of venomous snakes and deadly anacondas, of tarantulas, piranhas and crocodiles, of exotic birds, alien plants and lost tribes. Well, with the exception of the anacondas (which failed to make an appearance) and the tribes (which remained lost), my four days and nights in the Peruvian Amazon delivered in full. To be continued....
